About the Exhibition:
Exhibition at Seidel City Contemporary Art Gallery and Art Lab features the artist Natasha Mistry along with Lee Heekin, Daniel Strawn, and a photography gallery curated by a good friend of Seidel City’s Mark Sink.
Join us on Friday, June 7th, for the opening of The Diamond Grid Collection. This series centers on Mistry's recent collection, "The Diamond-Grid Paintings," comprises large-scale oil paintings infused with mica and interference oil paint. Reflecting her meditative process, each stroke and hue seeks to connect the conscious and subconscious realms. The use of mica adds dimensional depth, symbolizing the evolving perspectives of self-awareness in the viewer's journey.
The opening reception is on Friday, June 7, 2024. Regular gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 to 4 pm or by appointment from Tuesday to Thursday.
Natasha Mistry artwork, spanning abstract ink drawings, oil paintings, and watercolors, delves into the quiet depths of the subconscious, echoing the geometric patterns of nature and meditation. Her vibrant creations balance liveliness with meditative stillness, inviting viewers to interpret and engage with their unique expression of color and pattern. Through an intuitive process, Mistry crafts personal, minimalist abstractions that resonate with vivid saturation and depth.
Lee Heekin’s work often portrays a world that is grid-like yet not fully organized, symbolizing the struggle for control. Initially, Heekin explored the grid as a representation of confinement and rigidity, but now her focus is on pushing against these constraints or embracing the path of least resistance. Utilizing repetition and abundance, she simplifies chaos, particularly evident in her recent exploration of leather as a medium, stripping down art to its purest form: line.
Darcie Shively, a Boulder-based artist with a global perspective, has been crafting unique tapestries for over a decade. Her 'patternless' weavings defy convention, embracing randomness through unconventional techniques like using dice and tarot cards to guide color choices. By incorporating materials sourced from her travels in New Mexico and Colorado, including black sheep roving and hand-dyed wool, Shively infuses her work with emotion and authenticity, disrupting traditional imagery while maintaining a sense of structure and stability.
Daniel Strawn, member of iconic Colorado art family, BFA from university of Denver, Multi media Artist, designer, craftsman and teacher, lives in Lyons, Colorado. This series, titled Wigheads, is a excercise inplastic telepathy, ingaging the tensions of manniquin souls desire to communicate, series of 8 photography and acrylic on panel, 2024
