Jason Appleton
Jason Appleton is a mid career "Neo- Modernist" working primarily in acrylics. In his Dot Paintings, he continues the Modernist quest to invent new forms and explore the realms of the subconscious. In his meticulous layers of dots, Appleton coalesces the nuances of color which, when fused with his organic forms, creates the architecture of his paintings. As a self-taught artist, Appleton has studied the work of Picasso, Matisse, and Dali. With over 30 years of creating art, he has developed his own instinctual way of working. This instinct has defined his obsession with the human figure, and his sense of the malleability of the female form becomes a language of different artistic styles and ways of expressing. The Dot Language of painting brings these styles into one space where the Dot becomes a kind of atom, denoting all things.
